Why Legacy Matters

A gun without its story is just a tool.

Every firearm in your safe has history. The .22 your grandfather taught you to shoot. The shotgun from your first dove hunt. The carry piece you picked out the day your daughter was born. Those stories matter — and when they're gone, they're gone.

Gun Legacy is the tier where Gun Vault stops being an inventory tool and becomes something more: a way to pass down not just your firearms, but the reasons they meant something to you.

Your kids will know why you kept that old 10/22. Your executor will know who inherits what. Your family won't be googling serial numbers and FFL rules during one of the hardest weeks of their lives.

What Gun Legacy Adds

Estate planning, built into your vault

Everything in Gun Safe — plus the tools that turn a collection into an inheritance.

Heir Designation

Name who inherits each gun

For every firearm, designate a primary heir by name and relationship — plus up to two backups if the primary is unable or unwilling to accept the gun when the time comes. No ambiguity, no family arguments.

  • Primary heir + up to 2 backups per firearm
  • Relationship, contact info, state of residence
  • Notes on restrictions (e.g. prohibited persons)
  • Different heirs for different guns — no problem

  • Unlimited text, no word cap per story
  • Rich formatting — headings, lists, emphasis
  • Attach photos and documents inline
  • Prompts to help you get started writing
Grandpa's Winchester

Grandpa bought this rifle the summer after he came home from Korea. He walked into a Western Auto in Price, Utah, with sixty-two dollars in his pocket, and he walked out with this lever action...

He taught your uncle to shoot on it. Then your dad. Then me. I was eleven the first time I got to carry it — my shoulder hurt for three days afterward...

Start Gun Legacy

My father had forty-one firearms. We had no list. No idea what was where, what was worth what, who got what. We spent six months cleaning it up with a lawyer. I will never do that to my kids.

Who Gun Legacy Is For

Built for owners thinking ahead

Gun Legacy is the tier for people who've started asking "what happens to all this when I'm gone?"

01

The Family Man

You've got kids, maybe grandkids. Your collection has been acquired over decades and you want specific guns to go to specific people — not lumped into a pile the family has to sort through.

Heirs designated, stories written
02

The Careful Collector

You've got 40–80 firearms, some worth serious money. You've written a will but never documented which gun goes to whom. Your executor will need a map — Gun Legacy is that map.

40–80 firearms typical
03

The Second-Generation Owner

You inherited guns yourself and learned the hard way how painful it is without records. Now you're building something better for the people who come after you.

Questions

Gun Legacy FAQ

The questions owners ask before committing to estate-level planning.

Is Gun Vault a legal substitute for a will?
No. Gun Vault is not a will and does not replace one. It's a detailed inventory and intent document that your estate attorney, executor, and heirs can use to understand your firearms and your wishes. Your will is still the binding legal document. Gun Legacy makes your will easier to execute, not unnecessary.
What actually happens when I die?
Your designated executor (whoever you've named) submits a verification request through Gun Vault along with a death certificate. We verify the certificate, then grant them read-only access to your vault records — firearm details, designated heirs, stories, and state transfer guidance. They can also download a printable PDF summary to share with your estate attorney. Your account otherwise stays private; executors don't get your password or full access.
Can I change heirs later?
Yes, at any time. Life changes — kids grow up, relationships evolve, people pass. Heir designations are editable whenever you're logged in, and changes take effect immediately. No lawyer needed to update.
What if my heir lives in a state with strict gun laws?
The state transfer guidance covers this explicitly. For high-restriction states like California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, or Hawaii, the guide walks through roster compliance, magazine capacity limits, features requirements, and mandatory FFL transfers. If a specific firearm can't legally be transferred to your named heir, Gun Legacy flags it and suggests alternatives from your backup list.
Are my stories private? Could anyone else read them?
Private by default. Only you see your stories while you're alive. After verification of passing, your designated executor and named heirs can access them. Stories are encrypted at rest, never shared, never used for training anything. They're for your family.
What about NFA items — suppressors, SBRs, machine guns?
Gun Legacy tracks NFA items as regular firearms, but NFA-specific features (tax stamp storage, trust document vault, Form 1/4 records, responsible persons) are on Gun Trust. If your collection includes multiple NFA items or you use a gun trust, upgrading to Gun Trust is the right move. You can upgrade anytime and your existing records carry forward.
What if I don't have an obvious heir?
Your heir doesn't have to be a family member. You can designate a friend, a hunting buddy, a neighbor, a nephew, or even leave instructions to sell the firearm and donate the proceeds. Gun Legacy's heir field is free-form — you write your intent, we make sure your executor sees it.
Can my attorney use the printable estate summary?
Yes — that's specifically what it's designed for. The PDF lists every firearm (make, model, serial, est. value), the designated heir and backups for each, state-specific transfer notes, and a certified timestamp. Estate attorneys can include it as an exhibit to your will or use it to accelerate the inventory phase of probate.
If I cancel, what happens to my stories and heirs?
You can export everything to PDF and ZIP before canceling — stories, heir info, state guides, photos, the whole archive. After cancellation your records drop to the Gun Safe or Free tier depending on what you pick, but Legacy-specific fields (heirs, stories, executors) stay read-only for 60 days so you can download. After 60 days they're permanently deleted.

Your firearms have stories.
Pass them down too.

$199 a year. Heirs named for every gun. Stories written. Executors set. $120 in platform credits. Your family won't have to figure it out without you.
