Is this really free forever, or is there a catch?
Really free, really forever. No trial period, no credit card required, no auto-upgrade. You can track up to 3 firearms indefinitely. We make money from paid plans — not from limiting or monetizing free users.
Are my serial numbers shared with the ATF or anyone else?
No. Gun Vault is not a federal registry. Your serial numbers, purchase records, and firearm data are not shared with the ATF, manufacturers, insurance companies, or law enforcement. Your data is yours. We'd only disclose anything under a valid court-issued subpoena, same as any other US company.
What happens if I hit 3 guns and don't want to upgrade?
You can still use your existing 5 slots normally — view, edit, and manage every firearm. You just can't add a 6th until you upgrade or remove one. No pressure, no countdown timer, no feature lockout on your existing records.
Can I export my data if I want to leave?
Yes. Every account — free or paid — can export their full vault as a CSV file at any time. If you delete your account, your data is wiped from our systems within 30 days.
Can I upload photos of my guns on the free plan?
Not on free. Photo uploads start with Gun Safe ($12/mo or $99/yr), which gives you unlimited photos per firearm plus the ability to attach receipts, bills of sale, and appraisal documents.
What happens if Gun Vault shuts down?
You'll get advance notice with time to export your data. We'd never hold your records hostage. The CSV export works on every plan, so you always have a portable copy of your vault.
Do I need to be a US resident to use Gun Vault?
Gun Vault is built for US-based firearm owners. Our transfer and legal guidance features assume US federal and state law. You can use the free plan from anywhere, but paid-plan features like GunTransfer credits only apply to US addresses.
Is my password secure?
We use bcrypt password hashing — industry standard, one-way, and salted. We never store plain-text passwords. Even our own team can't read your password. Connections use TLS 1.3, and your firearm data is encrypted at rest.
